Used Renault Zoe: is the battery included?

Check battery ownership, German rental tariffs and the transfer documents before comparing used Renault Zoe prices.

Two similar used Renault Zoe adverts can describe different purchases. One includes ownership of the traction battery; the other sells the car while the battery remains subject to a separate rental contract. A lower advertised car price therefore does not establish the cheaper purchase. Find out what the price includes before comparing offers.

The year is a clue, not proof of ownership

Used Zoe cars can have rented or owned batteries. A model year or registration date cannot prove the ownership position of the offered vehicle. An older car may have had its battery purchased later. Ask whether the battery is explicitly included in this sale or remains separately rented, and request documents that identify the relevant car and battery.

Make the advert and documents agree

German adverts may say Mietakku, zzgl. Batteriemiete, Kaufakku or Batterie inklusive. These labels are a starting point. Compare the advert with a purchase contract that states what is included and, where applicable, the battery rental documents. For a rental, establish the tariff, annual mileage allowance and transfer procedure for this car. Contradictory claims or missing papers leave the price comparison unresolved. Registration papers alone do not establish battery ownership.

German battery rental tariffs

Mobilize’s German tariff page was checked on 3 November 2026. The selected monthly amounts include VAT and Assistance. The 22 kWh rates for 7,500, 10,000 and 15,000 km/year are €64, €74 and €94; unlimited mileage is €124. The 40/41 kWh rates are €74, €84 and €104; the table does not list unlimited mileage. The 52 kWh rates are €79, €89 and €109; unlimited mileage is €129.

Compare the same ownership period

For the same planned period, compare car purchase price + monthly battery rent × months. This is a purchase-and-rental comparison, not the total cost of ownership. Keep electricity, insurance, servicing, repairs, resale value and possible end obligations separate. A reserve that has not been spent is also different from an actual payment.

For a 52 kWh battery at 10,000 km/year, an unchanged €89 monthly rate adds €3,204 over 36 months. At 7,500 km/year, €79 × 36 adds €2,844. The difference is €360 over three years. Those are unchanged-rate examples, not a quote for your car; excess mileage or tariff changes can alter the result.

An owned-battery car can cost more upfront yet have a lower purchase-and-rental comparison amount. A sufficiently lower car price can also offset rental payments. Assess the contract and condition alongside this arithmetic.

Arrange the rental transfer before handover

The car purchase contract does not transfer the rental agreement by itself. Mobilize’s process requires complete transfer documents, a signed new rental agreement, identity verification through Postident and confirmation of the new agreement. Under that process, the recorded handover date marks the end of the previous rental and the start of the new rental. Agree who starts the process, which tariff applies, what documents remain outstanding and which handover date is recorded, and obtain Mobilize’s confirmation.

Rental and ownership involve different obligations

Rental adds monthly payments and contract administration. Assistance is included in the published tariff, but any battery-related protection or replacement entitlement depends on the actual contract. An owned battery removes monthly rent; check the vehicle-specific battery warranty, start date, mileage limit, capacity threshold and remaining term. Assistance and battery warranty are different benefits. Neither ownership nor a rental agreement proves the battery’s current capacity or range on your route.

Before viewing or reserving the car

Request the precise Zoe version and battery size; written confirmation of whether the battery is owned or rented; the rental tariff and mileage allowance where relevant; the transfer steps and confirmation date; and available battery-condition, warranty and repair records. Add rent over your intended period to the car price. If it remains unclear whether the battery is included, resolve that before treating the prices as comparable.

The service can help organise the visible information and seller questions. Ownership and transfer still require the relevant documents; battery condition requires suitable evidence.
