Used VW Tiguan II petrol: strengths, inspection points and market context

The Tiguan II combines useful space with a broad advertised market. Before comparing cars, confirm standard or Allspace body, the exact TSI engine, front- or 4Motion drive, gearbox, DCC and possible towing use. Invoices, mileage and equipment need to match that exact car.

ADAC's petrol used-car guide covers the 2016–2024 Tiguan II, with the longer Allspace introduced in 2017. It credits build quality, space, functional controls, safe handling, comfortable suspension, supportive seats and the sliding rear bench. The series performs well in the TÜV report and ADAC also rates its breakdown result as good.

ADAC's compromises are the hard-to-see body corners, cumbersome size in town, sometimes uneven DSG pull-away and high fuel use from the 2.0 TSI. Its technical inspection prompts focus most often on axle suspension and worn brake discs. These are series-level findings, not proof of a fault on an individual car.

For engines, ADAC positions the 150 PS 1.4/1.5 TSI as the balanced middle. It says petrol versions with at least 180 PS and standard all-wheel drive offer more reserve for faster motorway use or towing, but cost more to buy and run. The median asking price was €26,568 and the middle 50% ran from €22,038 to €31,226. Dealers accounted for 89% of adverts and private sellers for 11%.

The page also showed 7,201 SUV/off-road/pickup entries and 23 saloons, about 6,289 automatic listings or 87%, plus 3,883 diesel, 3,059 petrol and 309 hybrid listings. Those filters do not form one matched Tiguan II TSI dataset: standard body, Allspace, Tiguan R, fuel, year, mileage, equipment and condition are mixed. A 2024 first registration alone does not establish the second generation. The live headline can differ from the dated FAQ figure.

Our market view: the large stock creates comparison opportunities, but 831 newly posted adverts are not a sales figure. These are asking prices and advertised stock, not completed sales, transaction prices or ownership transfers, a valuation, or a value, trend or resale forecast.

KBA's recall database records reference 6594 and Volkswagen code 72F9, published on 29 November 2016 for VW Tiguan vehicles produced in 2016. KBA says an incorrectly executed weld on the seat backrest may increase injury risk in a rear impact. The remedy is to check the production data of the seat backrests and replace affected backrests where required.

The CSV row lists 13,899 potentially affected vehicle parts and accessories worldwide and 4,300 in Germany; known property-damage or personal-injury incidents are recorded as “N/A”, which is not a zero-incident claim. ADAC's guide lists 4,368 affected vehicles in Germany in its text about the same seat-back lead. The figures and field labels do not match, are not combined here and do not produce a VIN-resolved count of unique cars. The KBA campaign is marked “überwacht” (monitored), which does not mean the work on an individual car is complete.
